What to Put on a Digital Business Card

By Ellie Grant, founder of GoPassy · Updated September 11, 2026

Put your name, a one-line headline that says what you do or what you’re looking for, and one link to the page you most want people to see, usually LinkedIn or a portfolio. Add a photo or logo if it helps people remember you. Leave off your home address, long lists of links, and anything you wouldn’t hand a stranger.

The essentials

  • Your name, exactly as it appears on LinkedIn, so people find the right person later.
  • A one-line headline: your role, or your goal if you’re job hunting. Aim for under 40 characters so it fits on one line.
  • One link: the single page you’d want someone to open next. For most people that’s LinkedIn. Designers and writers often use a portfolio, and consultants a booking page.

Nice to have

  • A photo or logo, which makes your card easier to recognize later in someone’s phone.
  • Your colors, if you have a personal or company brand.
  • A card for each audience, for example one pointing to LinkedIn for recruiters and one pointing to your portfolio for clients.

What to leave off

  • Your home address. Your card will be scanned by people you’ve just met.
  • Your personal phone number, unless you want calls from everyone you meet. A LinkedIn link lets people reach you without it.
  • A long list of links. More choices means fewer people click anything. Pick one.
  • Anything out of date. Update your headline when your role or goal changes.

Headline examples

  • Student: “Finance ’27 · Seeking summer internships”
  • Recruiter: “Campus Recruiter · We’re hiring interns”
  • Freelancer: “Brand designer · Booking for October”
  • Sales or real estate: “Realtor · South Jersey homes”
  • Founder: “Founder, [Company] · Building [one-line idea]”

Questions people ask

Should I put my phone number on a digital business card?

Only if you want calls from people you meet. A link to LinkedIn or a contact page lets people reach you without sharing your number.

Can I have more than one digital business card?

Yes. GoPassy’s free plan includes 3 passes, so you can keep separate cards for different audiences, and Pro makes it unlimited.

Which link should I put on my digital business card?

The one page you’d want someone to open right after meeting you. For job seekers and most professionals, that’s LinkedIn.

Is a QR code or NFC better for sharing a digital business card?

Use both if you can. Any phone camera can scan a QR code, and most recent iPhones and Android phones can read an NFC tag with a tap. GoPassy Pro can write your link to an NFC tag.
